The Tokyo National Museum Heisei Kan (Ueno Park) will hold a special exhibition,\u201cUnrivaled Calligraphy: Yan Zhenqing and His Legacy\u201d from January 16 (Wednesday) to February 24 (Sun) in 2019 . <\/p>\n

During the Tang dynasty of China (618\u2013907), three great calligraphers\u2013Ouyang Xun, Yu Shinan, and Chu Suiliang\u2013perfected the style known as “standard script.” While inheriting the tradition they established, Yan Zhenqing (709\u2013785) succeeded in establishing his own style of calligraphy, which would have tremendous influence for ages to come. Bringing together exquisite works from collections in Japan and abroad, this exhibition will explore Yan Zhenqing and his work, its influence on future generations, and its reception in Japan.<\/p>\n
