The Ueno Royal Museum will hold a 50-year “breakthrough” Nagai GO exhibition from September 14th (Sat) to September 29th (Sun), 2019.

A large exhibition to commemorate the breakthrough of the 50th year of painting by the manga genius Go Nagai!

The manga genius Go Nagai has a variety of genres such as “Harenchi Gakuen”, which has caused social phenomena, “Devilman” who leaves the name in the history of the manga world, and “Mazinger Z”, a monumental monument of the giant robot manga. Has been sent to the world.
The number of works that have been announced so far exceeds 350, and the infinite imagination is still unknown.
This exhibition, which will be held in commemoration of the 50th year of the painting industry, will display more than 600 valuable handwritten manga manuscripts and color illustrations, from debut to the latest.
Exhibits are introduced by genre: “Devil / Devil”, “Robot”, “Gag”, and “Charming Hero Heroine”.
In addition, you can see treasured materials that cannot be seen in the area, and areas that are based on the world view of “Mazinger Z” and “Devilman”.
In addition, new works including illustrations and works that have made the way to Go Nagai’s debut as comics.
It will be shown for the first time at this exhibition.

■ Go Nagai Profile

Born September 6, 1945 in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
From an early age, he became familiar with manga, movies, rakugo, and adventure novels, and made his debut in 1967 with “Memeshi Polykichi” after being assisted by Shotaro Ishinomori.
The following year, “Harenchi Gakuen” will be serialized and will soon become a big boom.
Since then, he has continued to present works in a wide range of genres.
Representative works include “Devilman”, “Mazinger Z”, “Violence Jack”, “Cutie Honey” and many others.
In 1980, he received the 4th Kodansha Manga Award (Shonen category) for “Dragon King”.
In 2009, the Nagai Go Memorial Hall opened in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
In 2018, he received the 47th Japan Cartoonists Association Award / Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award.
In July 2019, he received the Order of Chevalier from the French government.
Currently, “Devilman Saga” is serialized in Big Comic (Shogakukan) magazine.
